Obituary for Esther J. Lyke

Queensbury

Esther J. Lyke, 84, of Queensbury, passed away on Saturday June 29, 2013 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born October 29, 1928 in Leonardsville,NY, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Gardner Metcalf and Mary Hughes Metcalf.

Before moving to the North Country, Esther lived in New York City, and her favorite job there was Benefit Manager at Mt. Sinai Hospital. While living in Queensbury, she was an administrative assistant in the Queensbury School District, and also worked at General Electric.

Esther was very active in The Fraterna Order of Eagles Auxillary. She served as president in South Glens Falls, and was a past New York State officer as well. She received the honor of being Mother of the Year, and also the Queen of Hearts from her many, many dear friends. She was particularly proud of the fact that all of her grandchildren received college degrees.

In addition to her parents, Esther was predeceased by her darling John Kenny, an infant son, Thomas Edwin McIntyre, and a darling niece Susan Joiner Schermhorn Fenton.

Left to cherish her memory are her oldest son William James McIntyre and his wife Judith, her youngest son Michael Norman McIntyre and his wife Elma, her grandchildren; Diana Hardin and her husband Kim, James McIntyre and his companion Rose, Dawn Vawter and her husband Don, Jonathon McIntyre and his wife Kaitlyn, and Mary McIntyre, her great-grandchildren Sheldon and Sean Hardin, and Ella Vawter, a sister, Dorothy (Duff) Joiner, a niece Lori Joiner Coldwell and her husband same, along with their son Justin, and a nephew Steven Joiner and his wife Valerie, along with their children Christopher, Nicholas, and Kyle, of Queensboro,KY, and Steven, Peter, and Katie of South Glens Falls.

At Esther’s request, there will be no calling hours. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Fern Dale Cemetery in Johnstown,NY. Arrangements are under the care of M.B.
