Obituary for Fr. Marcus Brayton Rogers

Fr. Marcus Brayton Rogers, 84, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019, at Fort Hudson Nursing home.

Born on March 4, 1934, in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late Fr. Raymond and Marion (McKernon) Rogers.

Marcus graduated from Curtis High School in Staten Island. He went on to Agriculture School at Cornell University and at General Theological Seminary in New York City.

On June 18, 1955, Marcus married June Quattrone at St. Stephen’s Church in Olean, NY.

Marcus proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. as a Captain from June 1955 till 1963.

He became ordained to the Deaconate in June of 1966 and to the Priesthood in December of 1966. He served in St. Marks, Augusta, Maine; Christ the King in Stone Ridge, NY; Trinity Church, Bristol, CT and did supply work at various churches in the Albany Diocese for the past 20 years. His priesthood and doing God’s will became his life.

In addition to his parents, Marcus was predeceased by his daughter, Patty Saul; his siblings, Fr. Richard Rogers and Janice Jenkins.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, June; his children, Gigi Abbott ( Chuck), Mike Rogers, and Paul Rogers (Wendy); his grandchildren, Carolyn Burch (Bruce), Stephen Abbott (Angelia), Kevin Abbott, Anne Abbott, Katie Moore (Jonathan), Kayla Weber (Michael), Kaleigh Rogers, Hannah Rogers, Shane Rogers, Nathan Rogers and Camille Rogers; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 10-11am on Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 35 E. Main Street, Granville, NY. A Memorial Mass will follow the calling hour at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, due to severe allergies, memorial donations in Marcus’ memory can be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church, 35 E Main St, Granville, NY 12832 or Hartford Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 121, Hartford, NY 12838.
