Francis J. Anderson, 91 passed away on February 5, 2015 at home with his family by his side and will be reunited with his heavenly family.

He was born on June 12, 1923 at home to the late Carolina F. and Francis Anderson who lived on Barkley Lake, West Hebron, N.Y.

After his father passed away, Frank continued to work the family farm with his mother, Caroline. During his Junior and Senior years he was only able to attend school two to three days a week. He graduated from Washington Academy, Salem, New York, Class of 1941.

After his graduation, they left the farm and he worked at the Watervliet Arsenal until he was drafted into the Army during WWII, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. He was with the 554 Ordinance Company, Technician 4th grade and received an honorable discharge on November 13, 1945. His company repaired and transported tanks to and from the front lines. During his tour in the Army his mother, Caroline, enlisted in the Army and they both served overseas.

After the war, he returned to this area and on October 24, 1946, he married Dorothy L. Edie Hatch in West Pawlet, Vermont. They were married for 61 years until Dorothy’s death on February 6, 2008.

He worked at the Sandy Hill Corporation where he achieved master machinist classification and then foreman of the Drill Department. He retired in 1985 after 39 years of service. He also was a member of the Fort Edward Rescue Squad and a 30 year member of the Fort Edward Rifle Club.

Frank was active throughout his life, playing golf, riding motorcycles, snowmobiling, boating, fishing, hunting, shooting, playing cards, and spending the winters in Florida with his wife for 17 years. He enjoyed being able to go deer hunting with his son, grandsons and then his great grandson.

Frank always wanted to fly so he obtained his pilots license in 1986. He loved to fly his own Piper Arrow Airplane, taking his friends and family to the Coast on fishing trips and visiting friends in other states. He also enjoyed taking his children, grand children and friends on plane rides whenever possible.

He is predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Edie Hatch Anderson, his parents, Caroline and Francis Anderson, his step-father, Frank Taylor and his sister, Maud Gamble.

Frank was a dedicated and loving family man. He is survived by his son, Richard J. Anderson and his wife, Victoria of Fort Edward. His three daughters, Linda J. Anderson and Barbara J. McWhorter both of Fort Edward and Carol J. Anderson of South Glens Falls. A nephew, Mark Gamble of Fort Edward. He has 8 grandchildren, Janet (Karl) Othmer, Scott (Christine) Anderson, Karen (Joe) Akey, Tracy (Dan) Ryan, Sherry (Andrew) Burdick, Stephen (Marie) McWhorter, Michael (Shellie) McWhorter, and Kimberly Woodward. Also 12 great grandchildren Kyle Othmer, Kendra Anderson, Scott Anderson, Victoria (Tori) Anderson, Jamie LaFarr, Drew Burdick, Caleb McWhorter, Zachary McWhorter, Cayden McWhorter, McKenna McWhorter, Devin Smith, her fiancé, Cameron Weller and Alexis Smith.

Frank’s special friend who was always by his side, his companion, protector and alert canine “Brody”.

The family wishes to thank Dr William Parker, Dr. John Stoutenberg, Dr, Juan Garcia and Dr. Joseph Dagostino. Also the loving and caring Hospice ladies, Kelli, Karen, Jennifer, Maureen and Chaplain Mary of the Community Hospice of Saratoga.

Calling hours will be from 3 to 6 p.m on Sunday February 8, 2015. at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, N.Y. Deb Peacock, pastor of Argyle United Methodist Church, officiating.
Graveside service will be conducted at 11a.m. on Saturday May 16, 2015 Prospect Hill Cemetery in Argyle.
