Francis "Frank"  Depew
ARGYLE

Frank A. Depew, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Washington Center in Argyle with his family by his side.

Born December 4, 1924 in Glens Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Frank B. and Esther (Dunn) Depew.

Frank proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. After he left the service, he married Uta McCullough in Argyle, NY where they raised their family of 5 boys.

Frank was well known for buying and selling use cars (mostly Plymouths) in Argyle for years. He also retired from Scott Paper.

Frank loved NASCAR and his favorite driver was Richard Petty, who he had met several times. He could frequently be found drinking coffee and chatting with his friends at the Cabin Café. Frank spent many winters at his home in Florida but loved boating in the summer on Lake George. He also loved traveling the country in his motorhome. Frank will always be remembered for being incredibly generous. He was always giving gifts to his family and buying clothes, toys and coats for area children.

In addition to his parents, Frank was predeceased by his wife, Uta Depew, his sons; Chris and Dana Depew, his granddaughter, Krista Depew, his great-grandson Camden Depew, his sister Shirley Smart, and his brother, Gary Towle.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons; David Depew and his wife Kathy, Randy Depew and his wife Marsha, and Scott Depew and his wife Margo, his grandchildren; David Depew and his wife Janine, Dana Depew and his wife Leslie, Nick Depew and his wife Lindsey, Jennie Cuthbert, Bree Horton and her husband Richard, Jessie Cormie and her husband Peter, Matt Depew and his wife Jenna, Kyle Depew and his wife Kristie, and Liana DeMarsh and her husband JR, his sisters Patricia DeGroff and Colleen Towle, his brother Jack Towle and his wife Joan, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be missed by his German shepherd, Ruff.

A funeral service will be celebrated at 11am on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Argyle Presbyterian Church, Argyle, NY with Pastor Steve McLean officiating.

Interment with military honors will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery. A reception will take place at the Argyle Presbyterian Church following interment.

Memorial donations is Frank’s name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or to the Argyle Youth Commission, 41 Main Street, Municipal Building, Argyle, NY 12809.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Frank’s caregivers, Sylvia, Sherrill and Sandi and to his special friends, John Graham and Dave Lufkin who kept him company and brought him to breakfast. They also wish to thank the staff of Washington Center for their care and compassion towards Frank.
