Frank H. “Bugsy” Williams, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home.

Born in Fort Edward on June 28, 1922, he was the son of the late Frank and Eva Williams.

Frank enlisted in the United States Army in 1942. He served in Italy where he was injured and received the Purple Heart.

He worked for the Village of Fort Edward for 32 years.

On Oct. 12, 1963, he married Marlene Jane Joiner. They spent 43 years together before her passing in 2006.

Frank enjoyed taking walks with his wife Marlene, playing lotto and bingo, country music, and loved going for limo rides. He was a member of the Fort Edward VFW where he was a past commander, life member of the Fort Edward Volunteer Fire Department, and the Knights of Columbus. Frank also coached little league for several years, and was known as the Honorary Mayor of Canal Street and a canal rat.

Besides his parents and wife, Frank was predeceased by a daughter, Lorraine Hammond, two great-grandsons, siblings, Mary Smith, Florence Benoit, Jessie Silvernell, and Jimmy Williams.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Sherry Bailey and husband Dan of Fort Edward, Jane Flagg of Glens Falls, Cindy Martin of Glens Falls, Karen Hathaway and husband Gary of Hudson Falls, Frank Williams III of Wells, VT, son in-law, Ed Hammond, 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, brother Guy Williams and wife Marion of Florida, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins,

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11am on Friday, December 27, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Church, Broadway, Fort Edward, with Rev. Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

Spring burial will be conducted at 1:00pm on Wednesday April 30, 2014 at St. Joseph Cemetery.
