Obituary for George B. Sweet

George B. Sweet, 88, of County Rt. 44, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Washington Center in Argyle.

Born on November 24, 1927 in Mt. Vernon, NY, he was the son of the late Barney and Rose (Klepal) Sweet.

George was a 1946 graduate of Argyle Central School and was a US Air Force Staff Sergeant serving during the Korean Conflict. George was a self-employed farmer for 15 years and a carpenter for 26 years, until 1992. After retiring George enjoyed mowing at the T-Bird County club and then worked at the Argyle Hardware for several years. He was a member and past commander of the Argyle American Legion Post 1518 as well as a member and past master of the Argyle Lodge #567 Free and Accepted Masons. He was also a member of the Herschel-Argyle Lodge #508 F&AM, was P.P.G.M of Washington District 1978-79, Past member of the Carpenters Local #229, Glens Falls and a member of the former T-Bird Country Club. George enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting and gardening.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife Jane R. Sweet of Argyle; his brother, John Sweet and his wife Mary Lou of Argyle and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 to 3pm Wednesday May 4, 2016 in the Fellowship Hall at Argyle Presbyterian Church, Main St. Argyle.

Memorial Services will follow 3:00pm on Wednesday in the Fellowship Hall at the church with the Rev. Stephen McLean, pastor, officiating.

Members of the Herschel-Argyle Lodge #508 are requested to meet at 2:30pm at the church fellowship hall.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
