Obituary for Gertrude Elizabeth Ross (Benson)
GLENS FALLS - Gertrude Elizabeth Ross, 90, of Glens Falls, went into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, with her loving family by her side.
Born Sept. 9, 1923, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Ada (Gilman) Benson.
Gertrude married Jeremiah “Jumbo” Ross at St. Alphonsus Church in Glens Falls, and together they raised their family for over 50 years until he passed away in 1996.
Gert was a generous, kind and loving caregiver. She especially loved children and welcomed them all with a big, bright smile! She enjoyed country music/dancing, crafting and, cooking. Gert was famous for her macaroni “grease” soup and spaghetti. She and Jumbo always took pride in their large Italian garden. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and celebrating it with family.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Gert was predeceased by her brothers, Ernie Benson and Leonard Benson;her sister, Dorothy Dowd, and her sons, Jerry Ross and Anthony Ross.
Gert is survived by her loving daughter and caregiver, Donna Craft; her special son, Anthony Poulos and his wife, Sandra; her grandchildren: Jill DeGroff and her husband, Charles, Stacy Jones and her husband, William, Amy Ross, Ryan Ross, Anthony Ross, Dominic Ross, Jody Pratt and her husband, Aaron, Jerry Ross, Christopher Ross, and Tammy Greene; 13 great-grandchildren (with one great-granddaughter, Molly Pratt, expected to arrive in December of 2014); seven great-great grandchildren; her sister, Betty Galvin and her husband, Jack; and her daughters-in-law, Barbara Ross and Margaret Ross.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, with the Rev. Guy A. Childs, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Church, officiating.
Rite of Committal will follow the funeral service at Glens Falls Cemetery, Bay Street, Glens Falls, NY.
