Obituary for Guy Dennis Frenya

Fort Edward

Guy Dennis Frenya, 81, passed away on December 31, 2012 at Glens Falls Hospital as a result from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born on July 9, 1931 in Cadyville, NY, he was the son of the late Guy A. and Sadi (Kugler) Frenya.

After graduating from high school, Guy enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the U.S.S. Franklin Delanor Roosevelt and at Cecil Field, Florida as a Flight Mechanic.

Guy was employed by NYS Department of Correctional Services as a correction officer at Pilgrim State Hospital, Matteawan State Hospital, Dannemora State Hospital, Camp Summit and Great Meadow Correctional Facility. He was promoted to Correctional Sergeant and was assigned to Greene and Washington Correctional facilities, retiring in 1988.

In his retirement “Guy The Fly” pursued his passion for airplane flying and airplane rebuilding/refurbishing by attending and graduating from the Riverside School of Aeronauts in Utica, NY with an airframe and Power Plant Certification. Guy belonged to the Experimental Aircrafts Association and Aircraft Pilots and Owners Association.

Guy was a loyal, die-hard and dedicated member of the local Democratic Party, where he championed on behalf of the common man.

For over 25 years, he was a brother in the Fraternal Order of The Masons. Guy served as Past Master of Granville Lodge #55 in Granville; member of Mount Hope-Phoenix Lodge #96 in Fort Ann, Sandy Hill-Granville Chapter of the Royal Arch in Hartford, Calvary Commandery #69 in Greewich, AASR Valley of Schenectady and the Oriental Shriners in Troy. He was also the current President of the Saratoga-Warren and Washington Masonic District's Past Master's Association, and, a dear friend.

Guy was an avid fan of Country and Blue Grass music, was teaching himself to play the fiddle, and was fond of playing his guitar to the tunes of “Crazy” and “You are my Sunshine.”

Left to cherish Guy’s memories are his son Donald Frenya of Woodbridge, VA, daughters, Sandra Rockett of Dover, NH, and Sally Ann Reams and her significant other Alan Washer of Queensbury, a sister Frances Smart of Keeseville, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank all of Guy’s health care providers and caring and devoted friends, who had the courtesy to listen to Guy’s long-winded monologues with patience and grace.

At Guy’s request, there will be no calling hours.

Burial and Memorial Services will be conducted later this summer at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery.
