Hans Sven Holmquist died suddenly and unexpectedly on June 22, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Born on February 3, 1959, he was the son of Sven and the late Beverly (Skinner) Holmquist of Glens Falls.

Hans grew up in Glens Falls and graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1977. He went on to attend Adirondack Community College, Buffalo SUNY, and graduated from Oneonta SUNY.

For 28 years, he was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer.

His favorite hobby was the theater. Hans was involved with sound and lighting for many, many performances, which he started in high school and continued in Poughkeepsie and Rhinebeck Community theaters. He was a literacy volunteer helping people learn to read. Hans also enjoyed folk and philharmonic concerts, car shows, old movies, and the CB radio.

Hans is survived by his father, Sven Holmquist of South Glens Falls, brother, Jon Holmquist of Atlanta, GA, two sisters, Linda Smith and husband Glen of Atlanta, GA, and Andrea Gallant of Latham, nephews, Christopher and wife Christina, Ryan & Stephen Gallant and Geoffrey Smith and wife Elizabeth, niece, Eleanor Smith, grandniece, Ingrid Smith, grandnephew, Christopher Gallant, and several cousins.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2pm on Wednesday June 27, 2012 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803 with Rev. David McCane, Pastor of Oneida Community Church, officiating.

Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery, South Glens Falls.
