Obituary for Hebert J. Vadnais

FORT EDWARD -
Hebert J. Vadnais, 82, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born on September 10, 1927 in West Rutland, VT he was the son of the late Ora and Mary Louise (Hebert) Vadnais.

Hebert served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1945 to 1948 and was the recipient of the W.W. II Victory Medal. On October 17, 1948, Hebert married Helen Bruso at St. Joseph Church, Fort Edward.

For ten years Hebert worked for Bruso’s garage as a mechanic and auto body repair technician. He then spent 20 years employed by Ford Garage on Warren St. in Glens Falls as head of the auto body department. Next, Hebert was a custodian for the Fort Edward School District for 12 ½ years until his retirement. Being a determined worker, he then spent the next 14 ½ years part-time as a custodian for Horizon, still within the Fort Edward School District.
Hebert built a home for his family where he and his wife raised their 7 children. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially at Trout Lake where they enjoyed swimming, camping and fishing at Sportsman’s Paradise for the last 45 years. Hebert enjoyed family gatherings where he was the life of the party, and also enjoyed dancing, hunting and playing cards with his wife. Hebert enjoyed working in his yard and helping his family do any home projects they had going on. Anything in need of repair he was able to fix himself. He was a very self-sufficient man.

Besides his parents, Hebert was predeceased by his five brothers: Rolland and his wife Alberta, Aldemar and his wife Caroline, Rosaire, Milton and his wife Rose, and Lagorrie Vadnais; a sister, Genevive “Ginger” Ryan and her husband Charles; his nephew, Gerald Vadnais; and his sister-in-law, Norma Vadnais.

Survivors besides his wife of 61 years include his children; Diana Geroux and her husband Ken of Greenwich, Ron Vadnais and his wife Rose of Comstock, Denise Pliscofsky and her husband Alex of Fort Ann, Mary Benware and her husband Tony of Plattsburg, Gary Vadnais of Gansevoort, Cindy Smith of Hudson Falls, and Karen McNutt and her husband Jim of Ft. Edward ; his 18 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Donald Vadnais and his wife Sonya and Douglas Vadnais all of California; his sister, Marilyn Walrath and her husband Edward of Hudson Falls; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am Saturday, July 24, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Church 164 Broadway, Fort Edward, with Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating. Pall Bearers will be his grandsons; Jim and Jeremy Geroux, Robert Rolleston, Alex and Joe Pliscofsky, Jason Benware, Joshua Vadnais and James Smith.

The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hudson Falls.
