Helen F. Donbeck, 91, passed away Friday morning August 3, 2012 at the
Fort Hudson Nursing Facility.
Helen was born February 1, 1921 in Middle Falls, New York. She was the daughter of the late Earl Ackley and Georgianna (Perry) Ackley.
Helen was employed by Steven & Thompson Paper Mill as an assembly-line worker during WWII. In April 1949, she married Stephen J. Donbeck at St. Joseph’s Church in Greenwich, New York.
For 63 years Helen has made Fort Edward her home. She was past Librarian at Fort Edward Free Library for eight years. She was a member of The Old Fort House Historical Society and a docent at The Old Fort House Museum. Helen was a charter member and past Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Morrissey #1477. She was also a parishioner of St. Jospeh’s Church in Fort Edward. Helen enjoyed working on banquets for the church, CDA card parties, doing crossword puzzles, and reading. She especially enjoyed spending time with her friends.
Besides her parents, Helen is predeceased by her husband Stephen; her five sisters, Anna Mae Boyd, Margaret Luke, Delia McKernon, Lucien McCormack, and Jenny Karp; her brother, Henry Ackley, and nephew, Christopher McCormack.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Sharon Babson and her husband Richard, her sons Stephen Donbeck and Timothy Donbeck and his wife Frances, her four grandchildren: Richard Babson, Jr. and his wife Cristi, Daniel Babson and his wife Kerry and their children Sidney and Ryan, Timothy Donbeck, Jr. and his wife Brandy and their children Olivia and Jack and Kimberly Babson and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday, August 7 from 4-8 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward. Online condolences may be posted at www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 8 at 9:30 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 164 Broadway, Fort Edward with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.
Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Burgoyne Avenue, Fort Edward.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Helen’s memory to the Fort Hudson Nursing Home, 319 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
