Henry G. Lenz, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by his family.

Born May 15, 1923, in Brooklyn, NY, Henry was the son of the late Henry Z. and Olga (Groat) Lenz.

Henry attended the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

Henry proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II, where he was part of campaigns in Central Europe and the Rhineland, as well as participating in the Army occupation of Japan. He was in the 12th Armored Division and helped liberate the Dachau Prison Camp.

In 1948, Henry married the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Henrietta, in Long Island, New York. Henrietta passed away on October 13, 2003.

Henry was an electrical engineer employed at General Electric in Schenectady, NY where he worked on appliance design, small A-C motors, and large motors and generators. He was awarded the R.J. Cordiner Award for his work on hermetic motors. He was also part of the G.E. Quarter Century Club.

Henry started his own company and was awarded 25 patents during his career. He will also be remembered for riding his bicycle from New York to Maine, and spending some time with Ernest Hemingway. Henry loved poker, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren and his dog Max.

In addition to his parents and his wife Henrietta, Henry was predeceased by his son Henry (Hal) Lenz, his brother Robert Lenz, and his brother-in-law, James Snyder.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Therese (Teri) Lenz, his granddaughter Laura Bulmer, his grandson Mark Bulmer, all of Fort Edward, several beloved nieces and nephews, and his special buddy Max.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Road, South Glens Falls, NY 12803, with the Rev. Guy A. Childs, Pastor officiating.

Rite of Committal will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 12pm on Thursday, February 6, 2014 following Mass.
