Obituary for Ida Evelyn Dessaint (Patten)

Ida Evelyn Dessaint (Patten)
Argyle

Ida Evelyn (Patten) Dessaint, 94, joined the arms of the Lord and family members on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. She passed away peacefully at home with family by her side.

Born in Dunhams Basin, NY on May 16, 1919, she was the daughter of the late James F. and Evelyn (Walsh) Patten. Ida was the oldest of 14 children.

She spent her childhood growing up in Adamsville and graduated from Hartford Central School class of 1939.

On June 30, 1940, at St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls, Ida married Harvey Dessaint. They spent 31 years together before Harvey’s passing in 1971. After getting married, Harvey and Ida settled in Argyle where they raised their family.

During the Christmas season for many years Ida worked at W.T. Grants in Hudson Falls. She also worked many years at Sherwood Medical and National Catheter in Argyle until the untimely death of her husband.

Ida was known as “Gram” to all that knew her. She had many hobbies and interest, which she enjoyed right to the end. Her life revolved around all the babies and children in her life. Ida loved to crochet and the number of baby sweater sets, mittens, and doilies are too numerous to count. She loved to play Bingo as well as play the Lottery. You didn’t have to ask her twice to go to the horse races, to a Casino, play Texas Hold’em, or play a game of Scrabble, which she enjoyed weekly with her sisters.

Besides her husband and parents, Ida is predeceased by a son Daniel Dessaint, grandson, Ethan Howey, sister, Dorothy Claire, Kay Patten, brothers, Clifford, Edward, Howard, James Jr., Richard and Raymond, sister and brother in-laws, Viola Patten, Frank Duel, Don Flynn, Glendon Claire, and Romeo Paradis.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Anita Godfrey (Steve) of Argyle, Sandra Fleming (Frank) of Hudson Falls, Lawrence “Larry” Dessaint (Sue) of Argyle, Sharon Bello (Marty) of Morehead City, NC, Roxane Dorsey (Mike), Karl Dessaint (Lynn) all of Argyle, Mark Dessaint of Glens Falls, and Jacqueline Beard (Bob) of Hudson Falls, daughter in-law, Marilyn Dessaint (Danny), several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, brother, Robert Patten (Jane), sisters, Betty Duel, Mildred Paradis, Gladys Flynn, Elaine Benson, sister in-laws, Lois Patten, Darlene Patten, Carol Patten, Theresa Maynard, brother in-law, Gerald Dessaint (Peggy), and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call from 1pm-3pm and 6pm-8pm on Friday February 21, 2014 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 82 Broadway Fort Edward, NY 12828. To view Ida’s Book of Memories and post online condolences, please visit www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11am on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Durkeetown Baptist Church, 2 Durkeetown Rd, Fort Edward, NY 12828 with Re. Mike Neigh, officiating.

Spring burial will be conducted at 1pm on Friday May 16, 2014 at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Argyle.
