Obituary for James Edward "Jim" Harrington

James Edward "Jim" Harrington
GLENS FALLS
James Edward Harrington of Glens Falls, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2014.
Born November 19, 1943, in Bald Mountain, NY in the town of Greenwich, he was the son of the late George and Nestyne (Brayman) Harrington.
Known by Jim to his family, he was more popularly known as Mr. Harrington or Professor to many, many math students in the area. He taught at Hudson Falls Schools from 1968-1974 and then moved to his beloved St. Mary’s Academy in 1974. He taught high school math for many years with dedication and passion. Jim had fond memories of his time at SMA and was always able to recall his students by name and class, and followed many of them for years after they left.
In 1982, Jim decided to challenge himself and transitioned to ACC where he was an Associate Professor of Mathematics until he “officially retired” in 2007. He continued to teach part time for both SUNY Adirondack and SUNY Plattsburgh. It would be nearly impossible to count the number of students that “Mr. Harrington” tutored over the years, including his nieces, nephews, and even children of the parents he had previously taught.
Jim is survived by his brother George Harrington and his wife Susan of Fort Edward, his sister Diane Tammen and her husband Duane of Leesville, SC, his brother Thomas Harrington of Fort Edward, his brother Mark Harrington and his companion Leann Flores of Fort Edward, his sister Cherie Harrington and her spouse Julie Thomas of Rochester, NY, his sister Nina Thivierge and her husband Gene of Victory Mills, his brother Christopher Harrington and his wife Lisa of Glens Falls, his brother David Harrington and his wife Ellen of Alplaus, NY, his sister Heidi Meyers and her husband John of South Glens Falls, his sister Dixie Tefft and her husband Roy of Greenwich, and his brother Paul Harrington and his wife Nicole of Queensbury. “Uncle Jim” is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who will miss him dearly. His impact on their lives is immeasurable, if not exponential.
Friends may call from 4-7pm on Friday, June 27, 2014 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803. To leave online condolences or to view Jim’s Book of Memories, please visit www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.
