Obituary for Janice Washburn (DeGarmo)

SOUTH GLENS FALLS

Janice (DeGarmo) Washburn, 83, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Born May 30, 1937 in Glens Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Stanleigh and Gertrude (Purinton) DeGarmo.

Janice graduated from SUNY Cobleskill with an Associates Degree and was employed by the Glens Falls Hospital, and then later at the South Glens Falls High School as a dietician.

On November 8, 1958, Janice married the love of her life, Cyrus Washburn at the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church, of which she was a lifelong member.

Janice was active in the Red River Dollies, the Banshee Beauts, and the Zonta Club. She also sat on the board for the Glens Falls Association for the Blind, and enjoyed working with the South High Marathon Dance from its inception until she retired.

Janice enjoyed the beach and traveling to Cape Cod. She will be best remembered for her selfless devotion to others. She never missed an event involving her children and grandchildren. She could be found cheering on the sidelines of their games, providing birthday dinners that always included homemade ice cream, and supporting them in everything they did. Loving her family was her absolute top priority, and she most enjoyed spending time with them.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 63 years, Cyrus Washburn, her children; Melissa Hayes and Michelle Granger (Stephen), her grandchildren; Ryan (Courtney), Tara (Jacob), Adam, Julie, and Seth, her great-grandchildren; Kaianna, Claire, Carson, and Kaden, her sister Joanne Collins (Ted), her niece Beth Mannix (Dan), her nephew Scott Collins (Jessie), as well as her cousins, Linda and Robert Whyland.

Friends may call from 11-1pm on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803. Masks and social distancing will be required.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1pm at the funeral home following the calling hours with Rev. Penny Brink and Rev. Dr. Clayton Burgess officiating.

Interment will follow at the Gansevoort Cemetery.
