Obituary for Jason Matthew Wendell

Fort Edward

Jason Matthew Wendell, 52, of Fort Edward, passed away on August 6th peacefully in his home.

Jason, also known as “Jake” and “Spike” to his friends, was born on August 29th, 1970, to John and
Rosemarie Wendell in Glens Falls. After graduating from Glens Falls High School in 1988, he went on to
enlist in the United States Army. He served in the U.S. Army for three years as a Hawk Missile
crewmember. He enjoyed telling stories about his time with his Army buddies, driving tanks as the
personal driver for the colonel and living in places such as Georgia and Tennessee.

Following his time in the Army, Jason met and fell in love with his wife, Heather Adams-Wendell while
they were working together at Lox of Bagels in Glens Falls. Jason was 24 and Heather was 19 years old
when they first met. Their favorite hobby was to go on late night motorcycle rides. Jason and Heather
went on to get married on August 2nd, 1997. Jason and Heather would go on to have two living children,
Jacobe and Samantha Wendell and one that was lost during pregnancy. Jason was a wonderful and
devoted father and husband. They purchased their home in Fort Edward where they resided together until
his passing. Jason loved his time as a welder and machinist at Morgan Gage Company where he assisted
the owner, Clifford Gage, with managing clients and machine work. With this job, he had the opportunity
to travel to China and brought back plenty of stories and recipes to share with his family and friends.

Jason adored his wife, his children, and his granddaughter. He enjoyed sharing his hobbies with them
which included fishing, riding and building motorcycles, hunting, welding, music, sewing, and the
outdoors. Jason had his children out on the boat fishing as young as 3 years old and loved to tell people
that. He made a makeshift sidecar, attached it to a minibike, and would drive his children around the
block when they were little. It must have been a sight for the neighbors, but it’s a childhood memory they
will never forget. Jason used to sing bohemian rhapsody as loud as he could and make the funniest faces
just to get a laugh out of his wife and kids. Jason recently had a granddaughter who he loved very much.
Although he did not get to spend much time with her, the time he did get to spend was cherished.

Jason was such a kind soul with more talents and knowledge than he knew what to do with it. He could
play guitar, sew almost anything, weld, build cars, motorcycles, do woodworking, and so much more. He
was an out-of-the-box thinker and could fix practically anything. Jason could become friends with a
stranger within a matter of minutes. He took part in three motorcycle clubs throughout the years including
the Punishers, Hard Chargers, and the Legion Riders. His father, uncle, brother, and cousins were also
members of these clubs with him. Jason enjoyed hosting parties at his house where the club members
would share stories and laughs. When Jason wasn’t with family and friends, he dedicated much of his free
time to fixing up motorcycles and building rat rods.

Jason was predeceased by his grandparents, Betty and Lewis LaRock, and Lois and Jack Wendell. He is
survived by Heather Adams-Wendell (wife), Jacobe Wendell (son), Samantha Wendell (daughter), Mark
Yagy (future son in law who became a son to him), Lila Bea Yagy (granddaughter), John Wendell Jr.
(father) and Rosemarie Wendell (mother), John Wendell III and Courtney Wendell (brother and sister-in-
law). Corky and Debbie Tucker (brother and sister-in-law), Dean and Irina Rozell (life brother and his
wife), Jackie and Vince Somerville (sister-in -law and brother-in-law), John and Noreen Adams (mother
and father-in -law), and many nieces and nephews.

There will be services and a celebration of life on August 14th. The procession will begin at 9:45 am
where they will be lining up cars and motorcycles at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home in Fort Edward. We are
asking anyone who rides a motorcycle to bring it to the procession so you can ride with Jason. Full
military service and color guard will bring Jason home to Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National
Cemetery where burial will take place at 11:00 am. Following services, a celebration of life will
commence at The American Legion at 72 Pearl Street in Hudson Falls from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Jason
always said when he passes, he would want a big party to celebrate his life and we will be respecting those
wishes. Please help us celebrate his life to its fullest.

Arrangements are in the care of the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward NY 12828.
