Joan D. Roberts, born to Wallace and Gwendolyn Swezey, passed away at Fort Hudson Nursing Home on Wednesday, August 15, 2012.

Our mom raised three children: Debra (Floyd) Smith and Sandra Aratare of South Glens Falls and Norman (Wendy) Roberts of Granville with much devotion and love. She then went on to start her career as a Blueprint Designer for Fernwood Kitchens in South Glens Falls. Later, she started her own cleaning service, cleaning for many doctors and lawyers in the area.

Joan loved to travel and take trips with her family, especially to the ocean. If they got lost along the way, it just added to the adventure.

She was always doing for others, giving unselfishly.

Joan became ill in 2006 and was admitted to Fort Hudson Nursing Center, where she was taken in by the most compassionate and giving people. This is where she resided until her passing.

Mom never had a bad thought or thing to say about anyone. And she truly lived her life by the Serenity Prayer.

Besides her parents and husband, Joan was predeceased by her brother Jerome Swezey and her sisters Beatrice Mingo and Lois Kilpatrick.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Debra (Floyd) Smith, grandchildren Jennifer (Donald) Lindsey and Joshua (Elizabeth) Smith, great-grandchildren Peyton and Brady; daughter Sandra Aratare, grandchildren Adam, Jared and Chad Aratare, and Jodi (David) Ugliaro; great-grandchildren Alex, Aiden, Chad Jr., Angel, Savannah, Chaeli and Sierra; son Norman (Wendy) Roberts, grandchildren Joel (fiance Heather) Roberts, Adam, Corey and Celine Chapin. Also surviving Joan are her special sisters Colleen Viele (Lester) of Kingsbury and Ellen Pezzi of Glens Falls.

At Joan’s request there will be no calling hours. We will remember her forever in our hearts.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
