John J. “ Papa” Casey, 76, of Palmer Ridge Road, went into the arms of the Lord, on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 26, 1940 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Thelma (Dewey) Casey.

John attended St. Mary’s academy of Glens Falls. In November of 1959 he joined the US Army serving in the 82nd Airborne Division until Dec. of 1961. He then went into law enforcement serving with the Glens Falls Police Department, the Saratoga Sheriff Dept., the Saratoga Park Police, and the Department of Corrections. His favorite job was working on the family farm in Gansevoort, milking cows. He was a proud Dairy farmer who enjoyed being with his family giving them all special nicknames. One of his favorite pastimes was watching wrestling with his kids and grandkids. He loved his church, Fr. Tony and was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church.

In 1961 he married his Honey, Virginia Dow and they raised their 7 children on the farm.

Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his son Michael, his brother, Leo, his in-laws, Nelson and Celestia Dow.

Left to cherish his memory besides his wife of 56 years include his 6 children, Carol (George) Polunci of Granville, Sheila Sargent of Smithton, ILL, Annette (Michael) DeSantis of So. Glens Falls, John (Jessica) Casey of Hudson Falls, Thomas Casey of So. Glens Falls, Susan Jones of Martinsburg, WV; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, his niece and nephew, Christina & Scott Casey.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Avenue, So. Glens Falls.

The Rite of Committal will follow with military honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery, So. Glens Falls. All are welcome to a reception at St. Michael’s Parish Hall following the burial.

In Lieu of flowers, Donations may be made in John’s memory to St. Michael the Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Avenue, So. Glens Falls, NY 12803 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
