Obituary for John A. "Jack" Stomski

John A. "Jack" Stomski
Glens Falls

John“Jack” Stomski, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 12, surrounded by his loving family. Jack had been fighting the progression of Alzheimer’s for about two years.

He was born on May27, 1935 in Glens Falls, the son of the late William Joseph and Gertrude (Dougan) Stomski.

Upon graduation from St. Mary’s Academy, Jack enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country for 3 years. On October 10, 1959, Jack married June Squires, his lovely British wife. He enjoyed many trips to England and Maine with her. He especially enjoyed going to the Wells Diner for stuffed sole and even drove there with June for dinner- six hours and back in one day “just because”.

Jack started his career as a scheduler at Imperial Paper and Color Company and retired as a Master Scheduler from General Electric.

During his retirement, Jack focused on his craft of woodworking. A masterful craftsman, he built beautiful furniture and objects for his home and those of his children. We are so grateful to have these mementos to be admired and cherished by all. In addition to his woodworking, Jack loved golfing with his friends, fishing and reading cowboy books. He had a corny sense of humor which was most appreciated by his granddaughter Arielle Stomski Chester. He never left a family visit without giving his rendition of the St. Mary’s Fight Song.

Above all, he was a beloved family man, and would rather spend time with his children and grandchildren more than anything. He is survived by his wife of 53 years June Stomski of Glens Falls, son John Stomski Jr. of Queensbury, Leanne Stomski of Fort Worth, Texas and Lorraine Stomski of New York City. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren, Arielle Stomski Chester, Tyler, John and Jake Frankel, son-in-law Mark Frankel and sister Marcia Kretchmer of San Francisco and his four-legged “baby girls” Stickely and Ellis. He is most certainly overjoyed to go be with his other dogs and best pals Bailey and Laska in heaven.

The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Filion for his compassion and kindness during Jack’s illness and the staff at the Orchard Nursing Home in Granville for making his final days peaceful and with great dignity. Finally, we would like to thank Reverend Donald Pepper of the Welsh Presbyterian Church in Poultney, Vermont who was able to provide a final blessing for Jack before passing. He would have been so very appreciative.

Per Jack’s request there will be no calling hours.

A private ceremony with military honors will be held at a later date and at the convenience of the family at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers or food, the family would like donations be made, in loving memory of Jack, to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals at www.aspca.org/donate.

Arrangements are in the care of M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 136 Main St, So. Glens Falls, NY 12803. Online condolences may be posted at www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.
