John Michael "Johnny"  Walkup
Hudson Falls,

John Michael “Johnny” Walkup, 65, formerly of Washington State, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Glens Falls Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Glens Falls on Oct 25, 1948, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ruth (Spear) Walkup.

He graduated from Queensbury School and then joined the United States Army. Johnny proudly served for 23 year, and was loved and respected by all those under his charge while serving as the 1st SG of 53rd Support Group.

After retiring from the Army, he resided in Washington State, where he met his love of his life Sheila Steele.

Johnny always enjoyed tinkering on cars, watching football and NCIS. The family was blessed to have been able to have Johnny come home to spend time with family and friends. A special thanks to his friend and neighbor, Donald, who enabled him to come home.

Besides his parents, Johnny is predeceased by a brother, Renard E. Walkup.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife and best friend Sheila Walkup, daughter, Pam Walkup, step daughter, Liese Steele-Haley and husband Richard, grandson, Aidan, siblings, Ernest Spear and wife Lou, Joseph Walkup and wife Pat, Fred Walkup and wife Linda, Gary Walkup, Eddie Walkup and wife Jodeen, Bobby Walkup and wife Jackie, Rena Stevens, and husband Walt, Irene Walkup and her significant other Steve Mitchell, Kevin Walkup and wife Pat, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service will follow calling hours at 11:30 with Rev. Paul Mead, pastor of Gospel Lighthouse Church, officiating.

Burial with Military Honors will be at 1:00pm on Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
