Obituary for Joyce I. Hazelton

Joyce I. Hazelton
Fort Edward
Joyce I. Hazelton “Peanut” “Mame”, 77, of Rogers Street passed away Sunday, December 13, 2009 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on June 14, 1932 in Fort Edward, NY she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Bertha (Dunbar) Hazelton. Joyce graduated from Fort Edward High School in 1950 and was a lifelong resident.

Early in life Joyce babysat for several families, including the Tyler’s, who meant a great deal to her. For over 20 years she excelled as an AVON saleswoman, gaining membership in the President’s Club. Joyce also collected many AVON items herself over the years. Later she employed herself as an eldercare sitter, cleaning their homes, cooking for them, and keeping company.

An avid bowler for 40 years, Joyce held the office of Secretary for various bowling leagues in the area. She also enjoyed traveling (especially to Myrtle Beach), spending time with her family, and listening to country and gospel music.

Joyce loved the Christmas season with all of its trappings (music, time with family and, above all, snow). She enjoyed watching the Weather Channel, calling her nieces to let them know when the snow was coming so they could shovel.

Six sisters, Helen Dietze, Dorothy Baker, Ruth Harrington, Alice Nesnott, Elizabeth Hazelton, and Arlene Morehouse and six brothers, William Hazelton, Walter Hazelton, Robert Hazelton, Sherrill Hazelton, Richard Hazelton, and Donald Hazelton all died before her.

Survivors include one sister, Norma Hazelton of Fort Edward, NY; many nieces, nephews; great-nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; and, multiple cousins. Joyce is also survived by her second family, Barb and Roy Tyler and their children whom Joyce helped raise.
