Leo E. "Tappy"  Terrio
FORT EDWARD

Leo E. “Tappy” Terrio, 83, passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 2013 at Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born January 1, 1930, in Fort Edward, Tappy was the son of the late Leo and Mildred (Bailey) Terrio. He graduated from Fort Edward High School and attended Utah State University on a football scholarship. He ultimately graduated from Castleton State College where he obtained his Master’s Degree. He served in the United States Army (PFC) from 1953-1955.

On September 30, 1956, Tappy married the love of his life, Shirley Strain, at St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward, NY.

Tappy will always be remembered by his students as being an inspirational teacher, principal, and coach at Fort Edward High School, where he worked for many years. He took an active interest in their lives and well-being, and could remember their names many years after they graduated. Tappy was also very active in the community of Fort Edward. He was a member of the Lions Club, The Idle Hour Club, The Drum Corps (The Vagabonds), The Greenjackets Football team, and he sat on the Village Board for many years. He made a great impact on everyone he met.

Tappy most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved spending time with many lifelong friends. He enjoyed football, whether he was playing, coaching, attending a game, or watching on TV, and he was an avid Yankees fan. He also enjoyed sitting on the beach in Maine and boating on Lake George.

In addition to his parents, Tappy was predeceased by his brother Paul, and his mother-in-law Mickey.

Tappy is survived by his loving wife Shirley, his son Todd and his wife Julie, his grandchildren Tèylyr, Hannah, and Ethan, and many special nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on January 11, 2013 at 11am at St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward.

The rite of committal will be private and at the convenience of the family.
