Obituary for Leslie "Buzz" Hurlburt

Leslie "Buzz" Hurlburt
FORT EDWARD
Leslie Charles “Buzz” Hurlburt, 54, passed away at Glens Falls Hospital on December 31, 2009. Buzz was born January 1, 1955, the son of the late George and Lillian Parker Hurlburt. Though everyone knew him as Buzz, when people learned his given name, he would proudly share that he was named after the doctor who delivered him, Leslie “Old Doc” White, and his Uncle Charles “Chick” Hurlburt.

Besides his parents, Buzz was predeceased by three siblings: Brian, Cheri and Missy Hurlburt and one nephew, Brandon Lee Gray.

Buzz graduated from Fort Edward High School in 1974. He began his career as a “paper maker” on July 11, 1977. He was a dedicated employee and proud of his more than 30 years of service to the company now known as SCA Tissue. His knowledge of his machine was legendary. His regard for his crew was more like family than co-workers.
He married Joanne McCurry on September 9, 1977 and together they raised two sons, David Decamilla (Liz) of Spring Hill, FL. and Dave Manney (Yvette) of Plattsburgh, NY. His greatest joys were his grandchildren, Gregory and Jordanne Manney, Drew Decamilla and his godchildren Alyssa and Matthew Grumley.
Buzz was loyal, dependable and showed great concern for others. He loved children and had an almost magical way of interacting with them. He and his wife Joanne unofficially “adopted” several children into their family and he was a great mentor.
Buzz had a strong-willed personality and when he saw a need to take control of a situation, would talk about doing things “the Buzzie way”, which was forcefully and almost always achieved the desired results.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking and was a New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. He and Joanne made many trips to Florida and Pennsylvania Dutch country. He loved going to flea markets and shops and would always bring home gifts and treats for family members and friends.

In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Buzz is survived by his siblings: Janna Hurlburt and her husband Steve Hayes of Ballston Spa; Wendy Hurlburt of Edgewater, FL, Lori Morrow and her husband Mike of Fort Ann; “Butch” Hurlburt and his wife Pat of North Granville; Dan Hurlburt and his wife Patty of Fort Edward; Chris Chapman and her husband Tom of Middle Granville; sister-in-law Mary Smith and Tom Grow; brother-in-law Mike McCurry and his wife Judy. Nieces Nicole Smith, Kryn Morrow, Jennifer McCurry, Keighan Chapman; nephews Justin Gray, Brian Smith, Daniel Hurlburt, Matthew Hurlburt and Bob Chapman. He is also survived by four aunts, Betty (Richard) Aubrey, Jesse Davis, Jensie Parker and June Davis, one uncle, Gary Parker and several loving cousins, friends, co-workers and neighbors, including his “other brother” Jim Grumley and his wife Cheryl.

At Buzz's request there will be no calling hours.

Memorial Services will be conducted in the spring at a time to be announced.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Donations in Buzz's name may be made to the Fort Hudson Nursing Home, 319 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828 or St. Joseph's Church, 164 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
