Obituary for Lois Kilmer (McWhorter)

Argyle

Lois M. Kilmer, 89, a lifelong resident of Argyle, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at Fort Hudson Nursing Home, Fort Edward.

Born on June 15, 1931, in Argyle, she was the daughter of the late J. Laurence and Marjory (Williamson) McWhorter.

Lois graduated from Argyle School, class of 1949.

On January 25, 1958, she married Maurice B. Kilmer, who passed away on November 26, 1991.

Lois worked alongside her husband Mo at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral home, until his retirement. She also worked as an assistant dispatcher for the J.A. Barkley Hose Company for 30 years, and a clerk to the Town Supervisor of Argyle from 1953-1965. Lois was a former member of the Tri-County Farm and Garden Club, and a member of the H.H. Franklin and Upper Hudson Valley Car Clubs. She enjoyed family picnics, Williamson & McWhorter reunions, cooking, canning, making comforters for her family and friends, and helping others.

Besides her parents, Lois was also predeceased by her husband Maurice B. Kilmer, as well as her brothers, Kenneth and Bruce McWhorter; her stepson-in-law, John Huggins; her sisters-in-law, Shirley, Edna, Sandra and Suzanne McWhorter.

Left to cherish her memory include her son, Keith Kilmer and his wife, Janet of Argyle; her granddaughter, Jaime Davis and her husband, Chad of Glens Falls; step-son, George Kilmer and his wife, Patricia of Fort Edward; her step-daughter, Joan Huggins of Argyle; her siblings, Dr. Earl McWhorter, John McWhorter, Don McWhorter and his wife, Judy, Gordy McWhorter and his wife, Betsy, Paul McWhorter and his wife, Faith, Duane McWhorter, Mary Lou McWhorter, Dorothy Sherman and her husband, Gary; her stepgrandchildren; Michael Huggins (Barbara), Sarah Huggins, Theresa Healey (Tim), Craig Kilmer (Della), Todd Kilmer (Kevin O’Brien), Korey Kilmer (Sabrina), Ann Marie Boyce (Chris), Holy Shishik, Rachael Vann (Boone) and William Stoddard (Kristina) as well as several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10am on May 1, 2021 at the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Argyle with the Rev. Patti Girard, officiating.
