Obituary for Margaret Ellen Cooper (Church)

Margaret Ellen Cooper (Church)
Glens Falls

Margaret Ellen Church Cooper (Daisy), 88, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at her home with her loving family at her side.

Born December 9, 1924 in Wickham Heath, Berkshire, England, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Alice (Hartwell) Church.

Margaret joined the British ATS in 1943, and while stationed in Plymouth, England, she met her future husband, Morton Russell Cooper. They were married in Hayward’s Heath, England, on May 1, 1945.

Margaret came to the United States in February 1946 on the SS Argentina, on the first ship of war brides to arrive in the USA. She became a US citizen on September 2, 1949.

Margaret lived for almost 60 years in Ticonderoga, NY where she had many friends. She was an avid gardner and self-taught seamstress. She was an incredible mother and devoted grandmother. She was thrilled to be a great grandmother. She had a special love for the Salvation Army because it reminded her of her childhood, growing up in her beloved England. She was known for being able to strike up a conversation with anybody, anywhere, for her insistence on instructing every waitress she ever met on how to make a proper cup of tea, for her generosity to all the charities that she supported over the years, and for doing the NY Times Sunday crossword puzzle in INK.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Morton.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Hilary Cooper-Kenny, and her son-in-law William Kenny of Glens Falls; her three granddaughters; Brooke Blaise Roney and her husband Allan of Clifton Park, Holly Blaise of East Greenbush, Morgan Blaise amd her husband Andre Claridge of Colonie, her five great-grandchildren; Nevinn St. Gelais, Logan Roney, Gabriella Blaise-Coleman, Ava Roney, and Dale Blaise-Claridge; and her best friend Leona Simpson of Ticonderoga. She will be sorely missed.

At Margaret’s request, there will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the care of M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803. To leave online condolences or to view Margaret’s Book of Memories, please visit www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.
