Obituary for Margot Hyde (Rebhun)

SOUTH GLENS FALLS
Margot (Rebhun) Hyde, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.

Margot was born in Mainz, Germany on February 11, 1932. In December of 1938, she and her family, including her brother Walter, were able to leave Germany for the United States. She lived in Manhattan and Brooklyn, then Gulfport, FL, Newport, RI, and the Bronx. In the Bronx, Margot attended Walton High School, then Hunter College, Bronx Campus.

From the Bronx, Margot moved to Illinois, eventually attending the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, earning her Masters Degree for teaching French and English. Here Margot met her love Edward.
Margot taught English in Glens Falls for two years. Then Ed and Margot started a family with three wonderful boys, Michael, Gary, and Stephen. Eventually Margot worked in the South Glens Falls school system, first as a classroom aide, then a reading assistant, and finally as a French teacher. She retired in 1994.

Margot volunteered at Crandall Library, working at the book sales, retiring after 15 years due to illness. In her later years, Margot volunteered to teach Sudoku and Rug Braiding at the Moreau Community Center in South Glens Falls.

In her retirement years, Margot enjoyed traveling with her husband and dear friends, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and bringing joy to all who were lucky enough to know her.

The family wishes to extend a thank you to a group of eight caregivers, Cecelia Thomas, Melanie Jones, Shauna Russell, Christy Hopkins, Colleen Peck, Rebekah Burnham, and April Towers for their love, laughter, and wonderful care of Margot. They would also like to express their gratitude to Community Hospice of Saratoga, especially their nurse Vicki Goodspeed, for all their care and compassion.
