SOUTH GLENS FALLS -
Evelyn Laney, age 92, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the Fort Hudson Nursing Center in Fort Edward after a long illness.

Evelyn was born on April 26, 1918 in Glens Falls, the daughter of the late Frank and Bertha (Lemery) LaBarge.

Evelyn spent many years at Clark Brothers Glove Factory. She also owned and operated Evelyn’s Ceramics in South Glens Falls, and was a long-time school bus driver for the South Glens Falls School system. She and her husband, Mike, enjoyed traveling in their motor home and belonged to the Coachmen Motor Home Club for many years. She also raised Boston Bull Terriers and took great pleasure in having them as her constant companions.

Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Mike Laney; a son, Jerome E. Laney; a grandson, James Laney; her sisters, Alice Plude and Leona Smaldone; and her brother, Frank “Pedie” LaBarge,

She is survived by her three daughters, Cynthia Murphy and her husband, Douglas, of South Glens Falls, Gloria Travis and her husband, Tony, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Deborah Laney of Queensbury; her three sons, Peter Laney and his wife, Sandra, of Meridian, Idaho, Michael Laney and his wife, Kathy, of South Glens Falls, and Mark Laney of Palm Bay, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Ursula Laney of Austin Texas; a sister, Loretta Welch of Gansevoort; 18 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on the family, Friday, May 7, 2010 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls between 6 and 8 p.m. Online condolences may be posted at kilmerfuneralhome.com.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michaels’ Church, 80 Saratoga Avenue, South Glens Falls on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 9 a.m. with the Reverend Guy A. Childs, pastor, officiating.

The committal service will take place St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls.
