GLENS FALLS -
Mary (Damiano) Martino, 98, formerly of Fredella Avenue and most recently a 22-year resident of Cronin High Rise, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, July 26, 2010 at Glens Falls Hospital after a brief illness and a fulfilled life.

Mary was born in S. Agata DiPuglia, Italy on December 6, 1911, the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Michela (Fredella) Damiano. She came to the United States through Ellis Island at the age of three. On June 30, 1946 she married the late Patsy Martino. He passed away on May 31, 1959.

Mary attended school in St. Mary’s Academy, Glens Falls. She worked at the Glove Factory in Glens Falls, and the Gold Shade Restaurant making pizzas. She loved family parties and taking trips with the Senior Citizens of Glens Falls. In her spare time she wrote the newsletter for the Seniors and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, tatting and bowling.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Anthony Damiano and Guy Damiano; her sister, Christine Torchetti; her brother’s in law, Daniel Torchetti and Dennis Martino; and her sister’s in law, Fran Damiano, Catherine Pistoria, Anna Malevendi, Grace Amo and Mary Dompnier.

Survivors include her daughter, Alice (Martino) Viele and her husband, Kenneth, of South Glens Falls; her grandchildren, Patrick Viele, Kevin Viele, Chad Viele and his wife, Tammy, all of South Glens Falls, as well as Nicole Viele of Somerville, MA; her great grandchildren: Danielle Viele of Hudson Falls; Keegan Viele of South Glens Falls and Mattison Viele of South Glens Falls,her sister in law, Rose Delong; her brother in law, Joe Martino; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on the family, Friday, July 30, 2010 between 5 and 7 p.m. at the M.B. Kilmer Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803. Online condolences may be posted at kilmerfuneralhome.com.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Michael the Archangel Church with the Reverend Anthony Childs, pastor, officiating.

Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff at both the Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Glens Falls Hospital (Tower 3) for their loving care.
