Mary Ingram Ostrom died quietly on September 25, 2013 at her home in Gansevoort, NY following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her loving husband was by her side.

Born September 29, 1942 in Englewood,NJ, she was the daughter of the late Robert Stevenson Ingram and Nan Christie Ingram. The family lived in River Edge, NJ prior to moving to Park Ridge, NJ.

Mary graduated from Park Ridge High School and attended Miami University in Oxford, OH, where she earned a degree in Music Education. She continued her studies in music education at Montclair State Teachers College in Montclair, NJ. She also studied voice under the direction of Estelle Liebling in Manhattan, NY, while singing with the Robert Shaw Chorale.

Mary taught at the East Ramapo Central School District in Spring Valley, NY for 36 years. She loved every one of her school children and brought them an appreciation of fine music. She was the Junior Choir and Bell Choir Director at the Park Ridge Congregational Church in Park Ridge and a member of the Choir and Bell Choir of South Glens Falls United Methodist Church in South Glens Falls. Her two great loves in life were the education of her children and her music.

Mary is survived by her husband of close to 43 years, Thomas W. Ostrom, and her brother Robert S. Ingram and his wife Patricia of Hilton Head, SC. She remained close to her Scottish heritage and her cousins Fiona MacDonald and Ian Christie of Bishopton, Scotland, as well as their extended families. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A Memorial service will be celebrated at 11am, Saturday October 5, 2013, at the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church, 15 Maplewood Parkway, South Glens Falls, NY 12803, with Rev. Jeffrey Stratton, Pastor officiating.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Mary was a proud member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization Sisterhood Chapter CC, and requested memorial donations in her name be made to P.E.O Sisterhood Chapter CC, 497 Glen Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801, for their scholarship fund.
