Obituary

LAKE LUZERNE

Michael M. “Itch” Evanico, 61, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the Glens Falls Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born February 18, 1958 in Glens Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Michael and Catherine (Yasko) Evanico.

Along with his parents, Michael built the Wedgewood Golf Course and then operated it for many years. He also worked at various other golf courses in the area. Golf was always one of his passions in life and he particularly loved playing with his father. One of Michael’s favorite jobs was providing transportation for the Irish dance company Rhythm in the Night, which allowed him to tour the entire country and meet many new people. He also loved researching family genealogy and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren experience life. Michael was an incredibly social guy who never met a stranger. He experienced life to the fullest and took nothing for granted. He made the most of each and every experience. People would leave encounters with him feeling as though they had met their new best friend, and he will be greatly missed by many.

In addition to his parents, Michael is predeceased by his aunt Helen Yasko.

Left to cherish his memory are his children (and their “Matts”) Sarah Frasier (Matthew Haley), and Kate Evanico (Matthew Forman), his grandchildren; Evan, Natalie, Rebekah, and Elowen, as well as many, many friends.

Friends may call from 1-2pm on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828. A Memorial Service will be celebrated at the funeral home following the calling hour.

Rite of Committal will follow the services at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Fort Edward.

In lieu of flowers or donations, Michael would want you to hug your loved ones and perform acts of kindnesses for others.

So sorry to hear about Mike's passing. The last time I saw him was at the Anvil Inn and he seemed fine, I did not know that he was ill so it was a shock to hear that he had passed. RIP Mike.

Lots of fond memories growing up on King Street with the entire Evanico family. My deepest condolences to the entire family. Rest easy Itch. Love from the Viele and Fleury families.

We grew up together from Kindergarten at O'Donnell School through Seniors in high school next to each other the whole way: Etu, Evanico. We were neighbors and spent a lot of time in Little Canada, in his tree house that wasn't in a tree, riding mini bikes, kickball, whiffle ball, hide and seek, knocking out all the steetlights (with a thud on the pole), romping after curfew and just being kids, walking to and from downtown as teenagers. So many memories. I could go on and on.
And as adults at The Wedgewood, hanging with him and his parents and his daughters. He was a great dad, and he shared this story, when Kate was potty training, how he checked on her and she was standing up to pee. I still laugh at that.
He was the best greenskeeper, he took such pride in his golf course.
A great guy, a great friend, a big kid, who will be missed by so many. You fought a valiant fight, Itch, and now are at peace with Mom and Dad, hopefully on the 18th hole! Your friend Cyndie

So sad to hear of Mike’s (Itch) passing. His quiet easy going manner & smile, scent of Brut cologne hours of pitch in Flap’s (Jordan’s) cellar are some of my fondest memories. RIP Itch!
