Obituary for Muriel Esther Stone (Stout)

HUDSON FALLS -

Muriel Esther (Stout) Stone, 74, of Hudson Falls passed away in peace on Thursday January 28, 2010 at the Glens Falls Hospital with her family by her side. Just as she left, the sun broke through the cloudy day and a sustained gust of wind marked her passing.

Born in Argyle, N.Y. on September 19, 1935, she was the daughter of Ray and Ethel (Jolly) Stout. She was raised on the family farm in Argyle and spent her youth and young adulthood there before moving to Hudson Falls.

She was gifted in the art of bookkeeping and held those positions of trust at the International Brotherhood of Pulp, Sulfite and Paper Mill Workers Union office in Fort Edward, as a teller at the First National Bank of Glens Falls and as bookkeeper at Robinson Laundry. She managed the catering of wedding receptions, retirement parties and other social functions at the Stone Crest Inn. After “retirement” she worked as a housekeeper for people who became her good friends.

Muriel enjoyed traveling, summers by the pool, autumn leaves, garage sales, shopping and getting a “good deal”, cooking and baking, doing the jumble, reading, spending time with her grandchildren and most of all helping others.

Muriel is survived by her daughter Darlene Stone of Parkton, North Carolina, son Brian Stone and daughter-in-law Maja (Stevancevic) of Rijeka, Croatia, son Flint Stone of Hudson Falls, N.Y., son Jamon Stone and daughter-in-law Tina Stone of Queensbury, N.Y. She is also survived by her grandchildren Angela Weller of Schenectady, N.Y., Boni Weller of Parkton, N.C., Andrew Stone of Glens Falls, Taylor M. Stone of Queensbury, N.Y. and Jan Brian Stone and Victor Ray Stone of Rijeka, Croatia. Muriel also was survived by three great-grandchildren, Reginald Peterson of Parkton, North Carolina, Rhianna LaMontain of Schenectady and Rythm Ogburn of Parkton, North Carolina. Muriel is also survived by her sisters Lola Roods of South Glens Falls, N.Y., Jewel Coates of Argyle, N.Y., Marjorie Stout of Hudson Falls, N.Y., Sibyl Ketcham of Argyle, N.Y. and a brother Arylus Stout of Kingsbury, N.Y. She also leaves several nieces and nephews and extended family that she was very fond of and loved very much.

She was predeceased by her parents Ray and Ethel Stout, her brother Robert (Boyd) Stout and his wife Bertha, her brother Gerald Stout and his wife Joyce, brother Colin (Red) Stout and his son Danny, her sister Gloria Calhoun and her husband John and nephew John-John, her sister Janet Sheridan and her husband Dave, a niece Suzanne Marotta and a grand niece Debbie Brown.

Muriel and her family would like to give their heart felt appreciation and thanks to the nurses and care givers in Tower 2 of the Glens Falls Hospital, but if not for them it would have certainly been more difficult. Their kindness and support was golden.
