Obituary for Philip Nelson Girard

Philip Nelson Girard
QUEENSBURY

Philip Nelson Girard, 75, of Queensbury, passed these surly bonds of Earth to spend eternity with Jesus, his two sons, and his grandson. He passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, surrounded by his family, and under the care of High Peaks Hospice and his loving wife Carol.

Phil was born September 13, 1938 in South Glens Falls, NY, an only child to the late Leon William and Antoinelle Ida (Miller) Girard.

Phil attended South Glens Falls Schools, starting with Bluebird Road School and graduating from South High in 1956. He joined the United States Navy and proudly served for the next 13 years and 6 months on active duty. He left the US Navy in 1969, having been a 1st Class Engineman and a 2nd Class Diver (both hard hat and scuba). He had also passed his Chief’s and Warrant Exam and could have retired as a Warrant Officer. Instead, Phil chose to leave the Navy to provide his youngest son the best of medical care by moving close to the Detroit Children’s Hospital.

After his military service, Phil enjoyed working in building and grounds maintenance in several schools in New York and Florida, and also driving a delivery truck while living in Michigan with his family. He also worked in the Glens Falls City School District in grounds and maintenance and as a bus driver.

Phil is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol Ann (Bell) Girard, his son Clifford and his wife Cindy of Queensbury, his son Philip Allen and his children of Greenfield Center, his son Michael and his wife Betty of Fort Edward, his daughter-in-law, Desiree Wilson of Fort Edward, and his grandchildren; Spencer, Dalton, and Lindsey.

Friends may call from 1-4pm on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803. To leave online condolences or to view Phil’s Book of Memories, please visit www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.

A funeral service will be celebrated at 4pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Loren Gage and the Rev. Flossie Bates officiating.
