Obituary for Phyllis A. Lawrence (Havens)

SOUTH GLENS FALLS


Phyllis A. (Havens) Lawrence, 88, of Gansevoort Road, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on February 4, 1931, at her family’s home in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of Clarence M. and Sarah E. (Mullen) Havens.

Phyllis was very bright in school and was moved up from 8th to 9th grade, graduating from Hudson Falls High School in 1948.

Phyllis was married on Sept. 16, 1951, to Donald W. Lawrence, at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls. Phyllis and Don moved into their home on Gansevoort Road, which was built by Don and his father, Howard.

Phyllis was employed for many years as secretary at the rectory at St Michael’s Church of South Glens Falls.
Phyllis belonged to the South Glens Falls High School Booster Club and worked the concession stand at countless Bulldog basketball and football games. She belonged to the St. Michael’s Church Rosary Alter Society. She volunteered every week at Bingo and many other Church Events. Phyllis delivered meals on wheels for many years.

Phyllis’ greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a kind, caring person who would gladly give her time to help others. Phyllis
went to church every Sunday and was a woman of great faith. Phyllis has set an example that her family members will strive to live up to for the rest of their lives.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Donald, her sister Elizabeth Havens Doty, her brothers Edward (Deed), Clarence, and Jack Havens, and her grandson Caleb Lawrence.

Survivors include her children: Donna Schempp and her husband Bill, of South Glens Falls, Bonnie Lawrence and her companion Brett Dufour, of Granville, Peter Lawrence and his wife Valerie, of Hague, Paul Lawrence and his wife Randi, of South Glens Falls, Timothy Lawrence and his companion Stacy Johnson of South Glens Falls, Matthew Lawrence and his companion Tamie Braley of South Glens Falls; her grandchildren: Chris and Heidi Schempp, Billy and Cheryl Schempp, Megan and Ron Pliscofsky, Nathan and Monica Lawrence, Ryan Lawrence, Jacob Lawrence, Aaron and Jamie Kuhl Lawrence, Emma Lawrence; her great grandchildren: Julia and Marley Schempp, Lucy Pliscofsky, Alyssa and Loudon Schempp, and Hudson Lawrence. Her sisters: Joan Walsh of Fort Edward, Patricia LaRock of Saratoga and Connie Havens of Hudson Falls; her sister- in-law Helen Havens, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

At Phyllis’ request there will be no calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Ave, South Glens Falls with Rev. Guy A. Childs officiating. Arrangements are in the care of the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St., South Glens Falls, NY 12803.

Rite of Committal will be conducted Saturday, May 10, 2019 at 10am in Southside Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers memorial donations in Phyllis’ memory may be made to Moreau Emergency Squad, 1583 State Route 9, Fort Edward, NY 12828 or to the Caleb Lawrence Warrior Award through South Glens Falls School, 6 Bluebird Rd, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.


The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff at the
Glens Falls Hospital for the care and compassion that they gave Phyllis during her final days.
