FORT EDWARD

Phyllis Smith, 82, formerly of Frank Street, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Fort Hudson Nursing Home, Fort Edward.

Born on May 9, 1930 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Lucien and Harriet (Knickerbocker) Gannon.

Phyllis attended the Ft. Edward Schools. She was a lifelong resident of Frank Street where she enjoyed working on her yard that she was very proud of. She was a communicant of the St. Joseph’s Church. Phyllis enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.

Besides her parents Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Clarence “Smitty” Smith and her daughter, Cheryl Caprood both in 1994, stepson Roland Mandigo, brothers Leonard Gannon, John ‘Jack’ Gannon and Earl Gannon, sisters Frances Osgood, Evelyn Cummings, Geraldine Smatko.

Survivors include her daughters, Susan Fisher and her husband Tom and Terry Murphy and her husband John and son-in-law Bill Caprood all of Fort Edward; grandchildren Tracy Etu and husband John, Andrew Fisher and wife Ceri, Jamie Murphy, Bill Caprood and significant other Janet Fish, Jeff Caprood, Kyle Murphy, great-grandchildren; Breanna Lemery, Drew Fisher, Kenadee Fisher, Alivia Caprood and Aberdeen Caprood, sisters Harriet Smatko, Barbara MacPherson and husband Minor, brother Jimmy Gannon and wife Phoebe and also a special family friend Brian Pino; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00a.m Saturday February 2, 2013 at St. Joseph Church, 164 Broadway, Fort Edward with Rev. Martin Fisher, pastor of the Church of Notre Dame, Schuylerville, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will be at the convenience of the family.

Donations may be made in Phyllis’s memory to the Fort Hudson Nursing Home Activities Center at 319 Broadway Fort Edward, NY 12828 or to the Alzheimer’s Association/ Northeastern NY Chapter at Pine West Plaza Building 4 Suite 405 Washington Avenue Ext., Albany, NY 12205.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home located in “S-Wing” for their excellent care given to mom while she was there.
