Obituary for Ralph "Junior" Durkee Jr.
Hartford
Ralph Durkee Jr., 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Glens Falls Hospital with his family by his side.
Born in Hartford on August 29, 1936, he was the son of the late Ralph and Alice (Wooddell) Durkee Sr.
Junior graduated from Hartford Central School.
He married Celia Dwyer in 1956.
In his early years, Junior operated the family farm and bartended at many local bars. He was an avid hunter and hell raiser, Junior enjoyed helping his son, Kelly, with the haying and enjoyed listening to his son, Jeff, play his favorite song; “I’ll break out again tonight.” In his last few years, Junior enjoyed having Macie and Patrick cut his hair, clip and paint his nails. Macie was also Junior’s little nurse.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 57 years, Celia Durkee, sons, Jeff Durkee and wife Beth of South Glens Falls, Kelly Durkee and wife Kim of Hartford, grandchildren, Jennifer, Nicole, Matthew, Nellie, Lindy, Patrick, and Macie, great-grandchildren, Cody and Blake LaRoe, brother, Gordon Durkee of Fort Ann, and a close friend, Tish Barody and her brother Joe of South Glens Falls, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At Junior’s request, there will be no calling hours or service.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
A gathering is being planned for some time in the spring at The Kelly Durkee Family Farm in Hartford, NY.
