Richard Leman "Pa" Clapper
QUEENSBURY

Richard L. “Pa” Clapper, 73, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center with his family by his side.

Born June 10, 1941, in New London, New Hampshire, he was the son of the late William and Blanche (Sawyer) Clapper.

Dick proudly served in the United States Army from 1959-1962. Upon his return from the military, he worked as a stock car driver and mechanic for NASCAR. He was also employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for many local businesses.

Dick would want to be remembered as having a “NICE COLD BEER”! He loved to barbeque and hold family get-togethers. He was an excellent cook and made wonderful “superburgers”, “Dick’s Stew”, and pasta salad and coleslaw for all sorts of family events. He was a big kid at heart and loved taking care of others, especially all his grandchildren. He also loved to garden and ride motorcycles. Dick was a friend to everyone.

In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his wife, Dale (Clark) Clapper, and his father-in-law Donald Clark.

Left to cherish his memory are his longtime companion of over 30 years, Betty Johnson, his children; Channing Clapper and his significant other Samantha, Jason Clapper and his wife Melissa, Phillip Johnson and his wife Michelle, Stephen Johnson and his wife Laurie, Jeff Johnson and his wife Lisa, and Debbie Hayes and her husband A.K., his grandchildren; Marlayna, Connor, Cassidy, Jace, Andrea, Ryan, Kristie, Matthew, Michael, Jeffrey, Jeremy, Amber Bement, Eric Bement, Ashton and Alee, his great-grandchildren; Shayne, Hailey, and Sophia, his mother-in-law Muriel Clark with whom he remained very close, as well as many special friends.

Friends may call from 1-3pm on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828. To leave online condolences or to view Richard’s Book of Memories, please visit www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.

A memorial service will follow calling hours at 3pm with Regina Haag of the Adirondack Friends Meeting officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Richard’s name can be made to the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center, 113 Holland Ave, Albany, NY 12208.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center for their care and compassion during Dick’s illness.
