Richard “Dick” Forte, 89, a lifelong resident of Fort Edward passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, eleven years to the day after his wife, at the Washington Center in Argyle.

Born in Glens Falls on October 4, 1924, he was the son of the late Everett and Lulu (Vaughn) Forte.

He was a graduate of Fort Edward School. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in World War II and the Korean Conflict and retired from the Naval Reserves in 1984.

Dick was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward and married Charlotte Mullen on July 27, 1947 at the church. They spent 56 years together before her passing in 2003.

He worked for many years at Scott Paper as an Electrical Superintendent.

Dick enjoyed golf, bowling, was an avid Red Sox fan, and enjoyed spending time with his family especially his dog Lily. He was a member of the Fort Edward Lions Club, Idle Hour Club, Fort Edward Chamber of Commerce, Village Trustee for over 30 years, and served as Deputy Mayor.

Besides his parents and wife, Dick is predeceased by his son, Timothy Forte, sister, Virginia Austin and husband George, his beloved dog, Lily, sisters and brothers in-law, Jane Godfrey, Charles “Coochie” Mullen, and Jean Havens.

Left to cherish his memories are his children, Candace “Candy” Schaperjahn and husband Dennis, Cynthia “Cyndi” D’Angelico and husband Michael, Carolyn Mary Vanderminden and husband Bob, grandchildren, Timothy Forte and wife Karena, John Annala, Garrett Schaperjahn, Alicia D’Angelico, Jared Davidson, and Hannah Davidson, great grandchildren, Marysa Davidson, Jessup Davidson, Demetria, Leandra, and Nicolette Forte; sisters and brothers in law, Shirley and Malcolm Havens, Joan Mullen, James Godfrey and Ray Havens, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call from 4-7pm on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828. Members of the Fort Edward Lions Club are requested to meet at 4:00pm at the funeral home on Sunday.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30am on Monday, August 11, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Church 164 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828, with Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fort Edward.
