Obituary for Rita Ann Snowball (Alden)

Rita Ann Snowball (Alden)
GANSEVOORT

Rita Ann (Alden) Snowball , 78, of 9 Balsam Lane, Ganesvoort, exited peacefully into the arms of her Lord on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born in Whitehall, on April 25, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Charles Alden and Helen (LaPierre) Alden.

Upon graduation from South Glens Falls High School in 1955, she worked as a teller for the Glens Falls National Bank.

On January 10, 1959, she wed Edward Snowball of Shushan, at St. Michael’s Church in South Glens Falls. She resigned from her position at the bank to raise their four sons. Recently, they had just celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.

As a young girl, she adored horses. That grew into a love for dogs. She operated a Siberian Husky kennel for several years, while living on Baker Avenue in South Glens Falls. She also had a treasured collection of German Humels. She loved to watch science fiction and monster movies with her boys. Many times, letting them stay up way past their bedtimes to do so. She couldn’t wait for spring to come because that meant trips to Glen Drive-In. It also meant walks around Hovey Pond with an ice cream in her hand. You could always find her putting cherished photos of her family into a binder, reading a new novel into the early morning hours, or adding to her vast DVD collection.

As her family grew more independent, Rita moved back into the work force. She worked at the Troy Shirt Guild until its closing. She was especially proud of this because it carried on her mother’s legacy of employment at the guild. She then spent many years at CR Bard. She finally retired to spend time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Rita was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Carolyn (Lynch) Alden.

She is survived by her husband, Edward, and her brother, retired Army Major Wesley Alden, of Greenfield, Indiana. Survivors also include her sons and their wives: Dan (Helene), Eric (Analiza), Tim (MaryBeth), and David (JoAnn). Surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren are: Terri, Meghan, Isabelle, Matthew, Ian (Korinna), Seth (Alyssa), Owen, Ethan, Aidan, Danielle, Tyler, Madelyn, and Harleigh.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m, Friday, March 4, at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803. A memorial service will follow calling hours at 6 p.m. at the funeral home, with Deacon Bill Bazinet officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Rita’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeastern NY, Pine West Plaza Building 4, Washington Ave Ext, Albany, NY 12205. To leave online condolences or to view Rita’s Book of Memories, please visit www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.
