Robert J. Benjamin, Sr. “Benny”, 74, of Lamplighter Acres, passed away at his home on Monday, April 12, 2010 following an extended illness.

Born in Nashua, New Hampshire on January 27, 1936 he was the son of the late Finley and Anna (Briand) Benjamin.

Benny entered the United Stares Army at the age of 17 and served during the Korean War Era. He furthered his patriotism as a member of the South Glens Falls American Legion Post 553 for more than 20 years.

On July 4, 1959 Benny married Jacqueline Levesque in Nashua, New Hampshire.

Benny worked as a vendor for Servomation which brought he and Jackie to New York. He was then employed by Daggett’s Vending (now Fitzgerald Brothers) retiring after 30 years.

Benny loved to travel. Hampton Beach every June with his grandchildren has been a tradition for the last 13 years. His children and grandchildren were his greatest enjoyment.

He was also known well for his corny sense of humor and always had a joke at the ready for anyone who would listen.

Survivors besides his wife of 50 years include his children: Sandra Abare and her husband Bruce of South Glens Falls, Robert Benjamin, Jr. of South Glens Falls, Susan Gates and her husband Ronald of Queensbury, and Roger Benjamin and his companion Stephanie of Cohoes,NY; grandchildren, Caleb Gates, Cody Gates, Brock Benjamin, and Karly Benjamin all of Queensbury, and Edward Abare of South Glens Falls

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2010 with Rev. Brian Gould, Community Hospice of Saratoga chaplain, officiating.

Burial will take place following the funeral services in Griswald Cemetery, Gansevoort, NY.
