Obituary for Ronald G. Hafner

Ronald G. Hafner
FORT EDWARD -
Ronald G. Hafner, 76, of Route 4 in Fort Edward passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2010 following an extended illness.

Born November 7, 1933 in Smith Basin, Ron was the son of the late Elmer and Ruth (DeLong) Hafner. He graduated from Hartford Central School in 1950.

He owned and operated the Hafner Farm in Fort Edward. He retired from farming in 1989 and went to work for the NYS Canal Corporation. He served in a number of capacities, including lock tender and maintenance assistant.

On July 11, 1954 he married Joyce E. Saunders in Hudson Falls. They spent over 46 years together raising six children, tending to the farm, and being each other's best friend. Joyce passed away on November 15, 2000.

Ron was a past member of the Kingsbury Fire Department and served as an assistant chief. His spare time was consumed with raising his six children. In his later years he took great pleasure in spending time with his children and their extended families. He also liked to read western novels, and had hundreds of western books in his home. He was an avid puzzle maker and could easily assemble a 3D puzzle.

In addition to his wife of 46 years and his parents, Ron was predeceased by three brothers, Hubert Hafner, James B. Hafner and Harold Hafner; as well as a close and dear friend J. Alexis Nadeau.

Ron is survived by three sons, Brian J. Hafner and his partner, Tom Williams, of Fort Edward, Jeffrey B. Hafner and his wife, Darlene, of Queensbury, and Michael A. Hafner and his wife, Colleen, of Petersburgh; three daughters, Laurie M. Gagne and her husband, Danny, of Cossayuna, Linda D. Swinton of Glens Falls, and Michele Hafner and her companion, Joseph V. Flewelling Sr., of Argyle; his brothers, Robert Hafner of Argyle and Stanley Hafner of Hadlock; a sister-in-law, Marcia Monahan of Comstock; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
