Obituary for Sandra Eileen Irwin

HUDSON FALLS

Sandra Eileen Irwin, 79, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Albany Medical Center.

Born December 9, 1940 in Glens Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Jessie (Morehouse) Irwin.

In her early years, Sandra attended Hartford Central School where she was a cheerleader. She then transferred to Hudson Falls High School where she graduated in 1958. After graduation, she attended the Austin Beauty School in Albany and became a licensed cosmetologist.

Sandra opened her salon, Sandra’s Beauty Shop, in Fort Ann but unfortunately had to close it in 1968 due to illness. She remained close friends with many of her clients over the years. During that time, Sandra enjoyed traveling to NYC and Florida with her friends. She also purchased a camper and a boat so that she and her brother Bill and his family could spend time together. They also enjoyed trips to Maine before her illness.

In October, following the birth of her daughter, Sandra suffered a brain aneurysm and had to relearn everything. With Sandra’s mom Jessie guiding and caring for them both, Jo Anne M. and Sandra grew together.

Sandra loved her daughter, but the happiest days of her life followed the birth of her grandchildren, Adriana and Zachary, whom she took care of for many years. Along with Jo Anne M. and her son-in-law Joe, they enjoyed baking, watching TV, and life in general. Sandra adored Joe and always knew that she wanted him to marry Jo Anne M.. They would joke back and forth constantly, and in the last six months, Joe helped take care of her; often spoiling her with goodies she shouldn’t have such as lobster, shrimp, ice cream, pudding, and Adirondack chocolates.

Adriana and Zach also took good care of her by taking her out and about to visit friends in her apartment complex, shopping at the mall, and at the outlets.

Sandra had many friends in her life including her best friend Carol Matteson with whome she had coffee and watched Let’s Make A Deal and The Price Is Right, and Lila and Mac Brill whom she spent several hours visiting with and going out to eat.

In addition to her parents, Sandra is predeceased by her brother William R. Irwin Sr. with whom she remained very close to until his passing, as well as her niece Pamela Jean Snide.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Jo Anne M. Huguley and her husband Jospeh, her grandchildren; Adriana and Zachary Huguley, her sister-in-law Shirley Irwin, her niece Amanda Winters, her nephew, William “Butch” Irwin Jr., her niece Tammy LaBonte, her nephew Rusty Burnell, as well as her best friends Carol Matteson and Lila and Mac Brill.

At Sandra’s request, services were private and in the care of the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
