Obituary for Stephen Merkley Jr.

GLENS FALLS

Stephen M. Merkley Jr., 33, went into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Glens Falls Hospital while surrounded by his loving family.

Stephen was born March 16, 1989, in Albany’s North End. He was the son of Stephen and Judith (Gregory) Merkley Sr., who affectionately referred to him as “Ebbies.”

Stephen graduated from Prospect School and resided at the Jerome House in the Glens Falls area where he enjoyed 16 joyous years. He enjoyed water parks, water play, sensory toys, and playing on the keyboard. Stephen loved going on long car rides with his mom and dad. Although Stephen was non-verbal, he always acknowledged everyone he met. He was known for his beautiful smile, infectious laughter, and his bright blue eyes. Stephen had an innocent soul and was a shining light to all who knew him.

Stephen is predeceased by his brother, Christopher Blair.

Stephen was the second youngest of seven children. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Stephen and Judith Merkley, his siblings; Monique Watkins (Thomas), James Blair Jr., Danielle Pantuosco (Michael), Brandon Merkley (Samantha), and Preston Merkley, as well as many nieces and nephews including his special niece, Sabrina Gregory.

Friends may call from 10-11am on Friday, April 22, 2022, at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803. A funeral service will follow the calling hour at 11am with Pastor Darrell Perkins of the Full Foundation Pentacostal Church officiating.

Interment will follow the services at the Glens Falls Cemetery on Bay Street, where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved brother.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the staff of Prospect School, the staff and caregivers at The Jerome House, and to the doctors, nurses, medical techs and palliative care staff at Glens Falls Hospital for their care and compassion while caring for Stephen.
