Sylvia R. (Corlew) Gitto, 82, of Culver Street, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at the Glens Falls Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Born May 10, 1931 in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Nellie Mae (Daha) Corlew.

Sylvia was employed by the radio station WWSC as a secretary, as well as by Country Dollar as a meatpacker. Most recently, she worked at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home for over 30 years in housekeeping.

Sylvia was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward. She always enjoyed Sunday Mass. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for over 54 years where she served as a past president and treasurer.

Sylvia enjoyed traveling with her family, and also with her senior group in South Glens Falls. She especially enjoyed her trips to Hawaii and Germany. Sylvia enjoyed bowling with The Hurricanes. She loved to do word search puzzles, crocheting, cooking, and baking. Sylvia was an excellent gardener and was proud of her lovely rose bushes. Most of all, Sylvia loved her family and all her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile.

In addition to her parents, Sylvia was predeceased by her brothers, Alfred Corlew and Richard Corlew, her sisters; Marjorie VanderEls and her husband Martin, Joan Bellanger, Linda Bellanger and her husband Remi, her grandson Wayland Grant, her brother-in-law Lewis Cooley, and her former husband and father of her children, Joseph Gitto.

Sylvia is survived by her children; Frank Gitto and his fiancée Debi Record, Alfred Gitto and his wife Debbie, David Gitto and his fiancée Teresa Alvanese, Gail Sherman and her husband Tom, Paul Gitto, Michael Gitto and his wife Autumn, Joseph Gitto (who is still grounded), Concettina Warren and her husband Dana, and Angela Gitto and her companion John Grant, her grandchildren; Rachel Taylor and her husband Scott, Theresa Gitto, Teri Gitto, AnnaMarie Gitto, Kelly Yole and her husband Will, Joshua Gitto and his wife Jenn, Jason Gitto, Brittany Gitto, Wendy Haley, Steven Gitto, Katelynn Gitto-Peryea and her wife Barbie, Chuck Boyd and his companion Linda, Makayla Cregar, Noah Cregar, Joslyn Brown and her husband Mark, Brandi Gitto, Kristen Condon, and Haleigh Condon, many great-grandchildren, her sister Gloria Cooley, her brother-in-law Jean Guy Bellanger, her sister-in-law Yota Corlew, her special niece Michele Springer and her husband Bob, her “adopted” son Ronald Wood, her former daughter-in-law Kelly Gitto, her longtime special friend Bud Sullivan, and many nieces, nephews and cousins, and the rest of you, you know who you are…

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 at St. Joseph Church, 164 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.

The Rite of Committal will be at 12:30pm on Saturday, May 10, 2014. in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hudson Falls.

Donations may be made in her memory to St. Joseph’s Church, 164 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
