Thelma J. Vernold-Eklund, 91, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Fort Hudson Nursing Home.
Born February 9, 1928 in Colchester , NY she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Delilah (Wormuth) Babcock.
She graduated from Downsville Central High School.
Thelma was a member of the Community Church in Downsville, American Legion Auxiliary, and Fireman’s Auxiliary in Downsville.
She was the owner and operator of the Village Market for many years.
On June 1, 1946 she married Arnold Vernold in Margaretville, NY.
Thelma enjoyed working, golfing, cooking and especially spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Thelma was predeceased by her husbands, Arnold Vernold and Robert Eklund.
Left to cherish her memory include her son, Vaughn Vernold and his wife Nancy; granddaughter, Stephanie Harwood; grandson, Kristopher Vernold and his wife Beth; great grandchildren, Emma Harwood, Andrew Vernold and Laura Vernold; sister, Doris Armstrong.
Friends and family may call from 1pm to 2pm on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at the Colchester Community Church in Downsville 15229 Main St, Downsville, NY 13755.
A Funeral Service will be held following the calling hour at 2pm.
Burial will be at Paige Cemetery in Downsville in the spring at the convenience of the family.
