Thomas George "Tommy"  Etu
FORT EDWARD
Thomas G. Etu, Sr., 78, of Frank Street, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born in Fort Edward on October 18, 1931, he was the son of the late Joseph and Evelyn (Coulombe) Etu. Tom was raised in Fort Edward and attended Fort Edward schools. He enlisted in the Army in June of 1951 and served in the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant 1st Class receiving two Bronze Stars during his service.

He married Elsie McCotter on March 10, 1953 at St. Joseph's Church in Fort Edward and they settled in Fort Edward to raise their family.

Tom worked at Scott Paper in Fort Edward until his retirement after 42 years. of service. He was very proud to have been a Paper Maker.

He was a member of The Knights of Columbus for over 50 years. Tom loved spending time with his children and their spouses and his grandchildren. He was lucky with his picking of lottery "scratch offs" having a few substantial wins over the years, He was an avid gardener and loved working in his vegetable garden and sharing its bounty with friends.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by two sisters Theresa Haynes and Mildred Doyle and his brother Clyde C. Etu.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Elsie Etu of Fort Edward and his children: Thomas "Tucker" Etu and his wife Virginia of Glen Lake, Mike Etu of Fort Edward, Bryan Etu and his wife Jeanne of Fort Edward and Karen Etu of Fort Edward, his grandchildren Erin Etu of Fort Edward, Shaun Etu of Fort Edward and John Etu of Glen Lake, his sister Thelma Gannon of Fort Edward, his brother Joseph Gyle Etu and his wife Arlene of Fort Edward, his sister-in-law Lorraine Etu of Queensbury and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Tom is also survived by his special friends Katie Fisher and her family of Pilot Knob, Liz and Jerry Dragon and their son Jared of Fort Edward and Cherie Bowe of Gansevoort.

At Tom's request there will be no calling hours.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00am Monday, March 15, 2010,at St. Joseph's Church, Broadway, Fort Edward with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

Burial will follow at 1:00pm at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.

The family suggests that donations may be made in Tom's memory to a charity of one's choice.
