Obituary for Timothy John Bennett
Queensbury
On December 10th, Timothy J Bennett of Queensbury passed away peacefully with his family by his side after fighting a Bennett Bold Battle with Cancer.
Tim was born in Glens Falls Hospital on July 15th 1949.
He was a graduate from Queensbury High School in 1967. Being from West Glens Falls was tough enough in those days, but thanks to the Queensbury Music Program & John Boor the music director Tim learned to play the coronet. Sitting 1st chair every year. That led to Tim joining the Fort Edward Vagabonds Drum and Bugle Corps. (What fun!) The Vagabonds went on to win many parade and field competitions.
Tim went on to joining the United States Army and served in the Army Security Agency for four years. Now a soldier, SP5 Bennett, volunteered for Vietnam where he intercepted and deciphered enemy morse code. SP5 Bennett finished his time up with the Army in Okinawa (again, what fun!)
Now it's time for college, repeatedly interrupted by life. Finally, he earned an Associate’s Degree in applied science with honors at Adirondack Community College in his early 30s. Tim later joined the carpenters Local 229 in 1983.
After a couple trial and errors Tim finally met his match, Martha Layhee Barber and married her June 2, 1995. Martha came with two young children Sarah and Adam who he always considered his own. Together this ready-made family set out on their trip through life. Tim was a very tolerant and level headed Dad teaching his children many important life lessons.
With the children came two beautiful grandchildren. The first grandchild, Savannah Rose Haywood. Savannah meant the world to Tim “Poppy” as she was the first child he raised from the time she was a baby. Poppy would say he finally understands how parents put up with children’s antics, because you just love them so much. Savannah became known as his “puddin” an endearing term showing his love for her. Savannah, he would say, was everything one could want in a child.
The next grandchild was Matthew Patrick Barber. While Poppy did not directly raise Matthew he loved him no less. Poppy and Matthew shared so many special moments together. Working on projects around the “Compound”, working in the garden, and boating on poppy’s beloved Hudson River. Poppy loved Matthew dearly and stated that he is a bright, sharp young man with a world of promise.
Tim enjoyed boating on “His River” with family & friends and of course his loving “dawgs” Bella Beau & Toto. They were part of the countless boating journeys. Tim was a lover of the beauty of nature and all of its animals, particularly birds. Tim also enjoyed golfing, camping, fishing, hunting, four wheeling, and parties on our river.
Tim is predeceased by his parents, Cecelia Francis Jarvis and Clyde Bennett; brother-in-law, David TeBordo; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
Left to cherish Tim’s memory include his loving wife, Martha Bennett; daughter, Sarah Barber; son, Adam Barber; granddaughter, Savannah; grandson, Matthew; sisters, Linda Smith (Steve), and Patricia TeBordo; brothers, Fred Bennett (Georgia), and David Jarvis; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends and family may call from 3p.m. to 6p.m. on Friday December 14, 2018 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 82 Broadway Fort Edward, NY 12828.
A funeral service will be held at 6pm following the calling hours.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
