Obituary for Veontha P Modeen

Middle Granville

Veontha Patch Modeen, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 28, 2023 with family by her side following a long illness.

She was born in Rutland, VT on July 21, 1932, daughter of the late George Oscar Patch, Jr. and G. Elfreda (Bartholomew) Patch.

As a child she spent much time with her late grandparents (H. Elroy & Lillian (Franklin) Bartholomew) and shared stories of loving memories she had with them through the years. She was the wife of the late Stanley E. Modeen with whom she had been married for 65 years. She was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth Wilkinson and her spouse Roy.

After graduation from Fair Haven High School she attended New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing (Boston, MA) and became a RN. There she cultivated friendships that lasted a lifetime. Veontha traded nursing for raising her two children, Laurel Pichette (Ed), and Mark Modeen (Cindy) which brought her much joy. She had a special place in her heart for children and always remembered her nieces and nephews on their birthdays and other special occasions.

She is survived by her children, her brother George Oscar Patch III (Liz), and her brother Melvin Patch (Darla), and the nieces and nephews previously mentioned along with cousins and many cherished friends.
Veontha lived most of her life in Washington County, NY. She had a love of music-- especially classical music-- and attended area concerts over many years with her family. She also had a lovely voice and could be heard singing harmony at church services on Sundays. Her faith was deep and strong and sustained her as her health failed in her later years.

She shared many stories of camping in the Adirondacks when her children were young and of later times when she and Stan would take day trips to one of their favorite places, Putnam Pond, to canoe and picnic. Veontha had a green thumb which was evident in her bountiful vegetable garden each summer as well as a yard full of beautiful flowers. Her artistic side also included writing prose and poetry and enjoying watercolor painting.

Visitation / Calling hours will be from 10 – 11 AM on Tuesday November 7, 2023 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
