Obituary for Vincent "Winnie" Benware

Vincent “Winnie” Benware, 94, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at the Pine Nursing Home in Glens Falls.
Born on March 30, 1924, in Albany, NY he was the son of the late Daisy (Benware) Reese.
Winnie attended Fort Edward High School. After high school he enlisted into the United States Army in 1946 and served until 1947.
He married Veronica Hicks in 1949. They were married for 58 years until her passing in March of 2007.
Winnie worked for many years at Decora in Fort Edward until his retirement in 1990. He was on the Fort Edward School Board for over 30 years, was a former member of the Fort Edward LDC and helped with the restoration of the train station. He was in the Vagabonds Drum and Bugle Corp in the 1950’s and a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph Church where he served as Usher, Altar Server into his 90’s. and a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 30 years.
He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Cleveland Browns, the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Winnie most of all loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory includes his three children, his daughter, Shirley Restau and her husband, Gary; his two sons, Michael Benware and Patrick Benware; his granddaughter, Brianna Camp and her husband, JK; and his step-granddaughter, Amy Barton and her husband, Rich; his great-grandchildren, Matthew, James and Joie Barton and Josephine Camp; his three sisters, Nancy Monsour and her husband, Ted, Joann Williams and her husband, Leo, Pricilla Suprise and her husband, Cordy; his three brothers, Jack Reese and his wife, Mary Ellen, Tom Reese and Marge, Ed Reese and his wife, Rea; his special dog, Chunx; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral Mass will be at 12 noon on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019 at St. Joseph Church, 164 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY.
Graveside services will be conducted at 12pm at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Fort Edward.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Winnie's name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
