SOUTH GLENS FALLS -
Walter D. Jennings, 90, formerly of West Road passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010 at his residence at The Oaks in Fort Edward, following a long illness.

A native of Long Lake he was born October 29, 1919 in Utica, NY, the son of the late Harrison D. and Metta Edmunds Jennings. He graduated from Long Lake High School in 1938. He also was a graduate of Cornell University and Miami Law School. Walter was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army as a First Lieutenant. He served in the North African and Italian Campaigns earning the Bronze Star, three Battle Crosses and the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross while serving with the 88th Infantry Division. He retired in 1983 after 32 years with the Hartford Insurance Company as a claims supervisor. Walter was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, life member and past Exalted Ruler of BPOE Glens Falls Lodge #81, member of American Legion Mohican Post # 553 in South Glens Falls where he served as treasurer. He was Scout Master of Troop #81 in Glens Falls and holder of the Scouters Key. Walter was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a long time member of Kempshall Mountain Club in Long Lake. He was an avid golfer at the T-Bird Golf Club and enjoyed bowling in the Moreau Seniors League and the Elks League.

He is survived by his loving wife Marjory I. Kenfield Jennings whom he married in 1950 in Long Lake; four sons, Walter Dean Jennings, Jr. and his wife Sue of Wilton, Wayne C. Jennings and his wife Linda of Suffolk, VA, Larry Jennings and his wife Sharon of Virginia Beach, VA and John D. Jennings and his fiancé Chrissy Madison of Queensbury; sister, Barbara Black and her husband Rodney of Port Charlotte, FL; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Dr. Alfred G. Jennings and Robert E. Jennings, two grandsons, Daniel P. Jennings and Walter D. Jennings, III.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 9, 2010 from 4:00-7:00 PM. at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home. 136 Main Street, So. Glens Falls, NY. The Elks will conduct a Lodge of Sorrow at the funeral home Tuesday at 7:00 PM. For on-line condolences please go to www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday March 10, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Walter’s son, Rev. Larry Jennings, officiating.

Burial will be Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 10:00AM at Long Lake Cemetery with military honors accorded. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either the Friends of Hospice, 415 Lower Main St. Hudson Falls, NY 12839 or BPOE #81 Major Projects Fund, 32 Cronin Road, Queensbury, NY 12804.
