Obituary for Warren D. Jefferis

Warren D. Jefferis
Queensbury

Warren D. Jefferis, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side at The Stanton Rehabilitation and Nursing Centre on Wednesday, October 24, 2012.

Born in Rochester, 85 years ago, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Edna (Laurent) Jefferis. He was predeceased by two brothers Lawrence Jefferis, III who passed away as a child and Lawrence Jefferis IV.

While still in high school in Rochester, Warren left during his junior year to join the US Navy to help with the war effort during WWII. He returned to complete high school after the war effort was over.

Warren graduated from the University of Rochester and his early teaching career began in the Rochester City School System. After teaching there for several years he moved on to the pleasure of teaching for many years at Newcomb Central School, which he described as “The best school in the Adirondacks”.

His pleasure with teaching continued after his retirement when he and his wife moved to Queensbury, where he worked as a tutor with the local Literacy Volunteers.

A favorite nephew described Warren as a man deeply connected to the world around him with a curiosity about other people’s experiences and opinions. He was a wonderful teacher who enjoyed discussing life as a constant process of learning for us all.

His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Patricia Callahan Jefferis of Queensbury, his sister Ann Hartley and her husband Gordon of Webster, NY, his brother Philip Jefferis and his wife Wendy of Baldwinsville, NY, and a sister in-law, Jean Jefferis of Sun City, FL, as well as seven well-loved nieces and nephews and also twelve great-nieces and nephews.

A heartfelt thank you is extended by Warren’s family to all the gentle care-givers who became friends as the Stanton Nursing Centre for the loving care he and his wife received during his stay there.

Warmest thanks to the many friends and neighbors who were faithful visitors during Warren’s illness. The visits and loving cards were deeply appreciated. It was Warren’s wish that there be no services and calling hours.

In accordance with Warren’s life-long love of animals, those who wish to remember Warren in a special way may make a donation to Adirondack Save-A-Stray, 4880 Rt. 9N, Corinth, NY 12822.

Arrangements have been entrusted to M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St, So. Glens Falls, NY 12803. Online condolences and to view the Book of Memories, please visit www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.
